DIAS, Maria
Maria Dias, 88 of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday, (August 3, 2013), at Maple View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Hill. Born in Portugal, Nov. 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joaquim and Maria (Gaspar) Lavado. Maria was employed for many years as a housekeeper at St. Francis Hospital and for the Hartford Life Insurance Company. Beginning as a young girl in Portugal, for nearly 70 years Maria received great joy from her love of crocheting and gifting her creations to loved ones. Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Ventura Dejesus Dias, a sister Georgina Santos and her parents. Maria will be missed dearly by her two children, Maria (Steven) Bednarz of Windsor Locks and Jack (Doreen) Dias of South Windsor; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Erica) Dias and Ricky (Danielle) Dias, both of South Windsor; four great grandchildren, Adria Dias, Justice Dias, Brandon Gonzales and Jake Dias; her sister Lidia Careira of Rocky Hill and her brother Jose Gaspar of Portugal.
Funeral services for Maria will be held at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096 Thursday, August 8, 2013, at 7 p.m. A visitation will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to the Founders Affiliate of American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 would be appreciated. Inurnment will be held at a later date by the family in Portugal.
