Mary S. KLEIN

1926 - 2013

Mary S. Klein died at Charlotte Hungerfield Hospital in Torrington, on Sunday, (December 15, 2013), from a pulmonary embolism following hip surgery. She was born June 1, 1926, in Jamestown, NY, to Paul Selfridge and Frances B. Selfridge. She attended Syracuse University, and married Keith W. Klein on June 2, 1945. She and Keith settled in Simsbury in 1959. An avid photographer, she ran her own darkroom, belonged to camera clubs in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and won two Boston Globe amateur photography awards. After working as a shopping columnist for the Farmington Valley Herald, she ran her own business, Belle Typesetting, for 25 years. She also opened two galleries, Tri-Point in Avon, and Demeter's Door in Simsbury. After developing multiple chemical sensitivity, she relied on caregivers and was largely housebound. She is survived by her brother, Gordon Selfridge of Sacramento, CA, her sister, Sue Jacobson of Norwich, VT, her daughter, Sandy Eastoak of Sebastopol, CA, her grand-daughters, Anaar Eastoak-Siletz of Chicago, IL and Tina Eastoak-Siletz of Santa Rosa, CA, seven nieces and nephews, and her loyal caregiver, Diane Baldwin of South Windsor. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2014, 1 p.m., at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will be in Simsbury Center Cemetery, Simsbury.
