Mary Toce

Mary (Gebhart) Toce, 90, of Newington, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald L. Toce, Sr. Born in Southborough, MA, daughter of the late George John Gebhart and Mary Alice (Wood) Gebhart, she resided in Newington for most of her life. Mrs. Toce retired from Custom Metal Crafter, Newington, and was formerly employed by Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Kensington, and the Red Coach Grill, Wethersfield. An active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington, she was past president and a former member of its Ladies Guild, and a former member of the Guild of St. Theresa. Mary was state president and a member for many years of the Catholic Ladies of Columbus, and past president and member of Our Lady of Grace Assembly. She was also secretary and member of the Democratice Womens Club and a past member of the Newington Senior Center and the Wethersfield Seniors. She was a wonderful quilter and enjoyed sewing quilts for all of the members of her family. She also made baptismal garments by hand for Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield, and the Church of the Holy Spirit. Loving and devoted to her family, she leaves eight children, Geraldine Cashman (Robert), of Newington, Victoria Wallace (William) of Harpswell, ME, Gerald Toce, Jr., of Berlin, Anthony Toce (Loretta Young) of Blue Hill, ME, Margaret Guertin (Denis) of Newington, Susan Gacek, RN (Gerald) of Berlin, David Toce (Diane), of New Britain, Kathy Bonaiuto (Chris) of Newington; 18 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She also leaves many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. She was pre-deceased by three grandchildren, Anthony, Marc and Margaret, and a brother George Gebhart, and a sister Alice Magnani. Her family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at Bel-Air Manor for the love and kindness shown to Mary while in their care. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. At 10:45 a.m. a Eulogy will be given by her son-in-law Robert Cashman at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit.
