WALDRON, Mervin "Merv"
Mervin "Merv" Waldron, 87, of South Windsor, loving husband of 64 years to Cynthia (Collins) Waldron, passed away peacefully on Sunday, (October 6, 2013) surrounded by his family at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Manchester, the son of the late William and Florence (Cowles) Waldron, he has lived in South Windsor all of his life. He was a graduate of Ellsworth Memorial High School in South Windsor, Class of 1944. Prior to his retirement in 1988, Merv was a construction foreman for Southern New England Telephone Company, where he served the company for 42 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Merv was a loyal and faithful member for over 70 years of the Wapping Community Church in South Windsor. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his beloved children, Pamela Waldron Bowen and her husband David of South Windsor, Gary Waldron and his wife Jody of Lebanon, and Brian Waldron and his wife Paula of Peru, MA; four grandchildren, Daniel S. and Micah C. Bowen, Jennifer Sauer and her husband Duane, and Ryan Waldron and his wife Kimberly; five great-grandchildren, Logan and Emerson Waldron, Madelyn Evans, and Zachary and Jake Sauer; numerous nieces and nephews, and his loving companion, his cat "Buttons". He was predeceased by his daughter, Madelyn Waldron; and four brothers, William Jr., Stanley, Sherwood and Dr. Sherman Waldron.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Funeral services to celebrate Merv's life will be held on Thursday, October 10, at 10 a.m. at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Wapping Community Church.
