BARNES, Patricia Harris
Patricia Harris Barnes, 76, widow of Weston S. Barnes, passed away peacefully Saturday (October 26, 2013). Born in Hartford, May 19, 1937, daughter of the late Joseph A. and Astrid (Benson) Harris, she was a graduate of Farmington High School. Patricia worked for many years at Friendly's Restaurant in Bristol and her colleagues there were like her second family. She cared so much for the young people who worked both for and with her over the years as well as her many regular customers. She was a lifelong member of St. James Parish in Farmington. Patricia was a selfless person who gave of herself in all dimensions of her life. She had a great love for her family, her friends and her church. She loved the Christmas holidays, UCONN Basketball, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants. She still met with many of her friends from high school and loved getting together for lunches every month with them. Patricia was the loving mother of Elizabeth Barnes and Kevin Mulligan and his son Connor Mulligan of Reading, MA, and Michael Barnes and Cara Gooding and her children of Unionville. She also leaves her brother, Joseph A. Harris Jr., and his wife Marie of Vernon; her sister, Joan (Harris) Rogers and her husband Robert of Farmington; her sister, Astrid (Harris) Johansen of Avon; her sister, Andrea J. Harris of Farmington; her sister, Anna S. Harris of Avon and many special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Harris and his wife Jane, her sister, Nancy (Harris) Wright and her husband Bert, and her brother-in-law, David Johansen.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (Nov. 2) at 1 p.m. in St. James Parish, 3 Mountain Road, Farmington. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Donations in her memory may be made to Aortic Institute Research Fund, c/o Suzanne Giannotti, Administrator, Boardman 2, 333 Cedar St., New Haven, CT 06510. Most of all, I remember Patty's smile. She could always be counted on to be the most cheerful and helpful person in the room.

Big hugs to Astrid, Andrea, and all of the St. James community of friends who were delighted by Patty's presence and constant concern for our future. We have missed her for a long time as she tried to recover from major surgeries. But her spirit of giving still remains with us as we remember her ready smile and belief in all of us. Miss you Patty.
Love,

Aunt Patty, although ours was a relation through marriage, the love and affection that I felt for you surpasses any biological attachment. You touched my heart with your gentle kindness and humility; always the peacemaker and family diplomat. Your love was unconditional, given throughout these 20 some odd years with doses of wisdom, faith, humor, and consideration. Your caring was genuine......we shared that “middle-child” connection. I learned by your example to appreciate, nurture, and cherish that special bond between sisters (including sisters-in-law) but most important, the connection of family! I'll forever cherish the last day I saw you....you smiled when I attempted to fix your hair, and hold the straw while you attempted to quench your thirst. You nodded in agreement that as soon as you were well, we'd be traveling to North Carolina! So rest peacefully Aunt Patty until that day comes, you know Ron and Toy will have plenty for us to do!

Dear Elizabeth, Michael and Pat's family and friends,
We send our sincere condolences to you all. I am one of Patty's high school friends who met for lunch with her once a month. She was also a life long friend. Patty was one of those rare individuals who had true integrity. She was always honest, caring and ready to give of herself to help anyone who needed it. We will all miss her very much. May she rest in peace!
With love, Barbara and Marty Cyr
