Paul Curran Obituary

Paul Curran, 69, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Janet (Durfey) Curran, died peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on May 2, 1944, in Hartford, CT, son of the late Joseph and Marguerite (Sweeney) Curran. Paul was a graduate of East Hartford High School Class of 1962. He went on to serve our country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1971 he was married to his loving wife Janet and together they settled in South Windsor. Paul worked as a purchasing agent for most of his career, most recently at Automation Controls, until his retirement in 2009. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and UCONN sports fan. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, and especially his woodpile. He was a member of the Hartford Elks Lodge #19, Knights of Columbus #3901, and Hose Company No. 3 in East Hartford. Paul had a great sense of humor and could always get a laugh out of people. He truly appreciated the simple things in life. He will be remembered by his family for having the ability to slow down in this fast paced world to "stop and smell the roses". Along with his wife, Janet of over 42 years, he leaves his son, Brian Curran and his wife Dina of Marlborough; his brother, Joseph Curran and his wife Ruth of W. Hartford; and his grandchildren, Penelope and Violet Curran. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Rita Curran. His family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Hartford Hospital CB-2 for their care and support. We will all miss you Paul. Family and friends may gather on Monday, December 30, 2013, 9 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at St Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. His family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home. Brian,
I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of your father. While I never had the honor of meeting him, I know his character shines brightly through you as a brother, husband, father, friend and to anyone who has had the good fortune to meet you and your family.

May his everlasting spirit be a source of comfort and solace to all.

To Paul's Family,

I was one of the many in sales that called on Paul for over 20 years. He was honest and sincere, and always managed to have a piece of the pie for all that were fortunate enough to do business with him.

With Sympathy,

Mrs Curran,

I was sorry to hear about your loss. I have such great memories of your husband and I always enjoyed spending time with him and your family watching UCONN basketball games and getting together for parties throughout the years.

Growing up on Devonshire Dr, I think we all looked forward to seeing your husband dressed up as Santa Claus to entertain the street during the Christmas season.

I send my condolences from my family to yours in hopes that these memories will bring a smile to your face during this difficult time. Like my father he is a Marine and will never be forgotten.

Janet, Brian & family
I worked with Paul for many years in West Hartford. A gruff exterior to hide the marshmellow inside. I laughed when I read the part about his "woodpile". He came down to Deep River when I built my house to select logs he wanted to split and he was very specific about the species and sizes he wanted!I think of his red jeep,Red Sox and how I could get him to do anything if I promised him a Heineken. I can't believe he's gone, my deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Janet, Brian and Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Paul. I know all to well of the devastation his diagnosis could deliver. I'm sorry he didn't get the chance to fight I know he would have fought and won if he could have. Devonshire Drive was the best place we ever lived. Everyone was so nice and friendly and we had a lot of good times together. I am glad I had the chance to know Paul, he was a good and very kind person. Devonshire Drive will not be the same ever again. May Paul Rest In Peace, God must have needed another Special Angel! Maybe Paul and Bill will get together to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday in November. My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go to all of you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I remember Paul from 8th grade class at Saint Rose Junior High, our class trip to Lake Compounce and what a bright, fun spirit he had. His sparkling Irish eyes, fire red hair and freckle face! We also both graduated class of '62 though I didn't see much of him during those years. God bless his soul and comfort his loving family.
