MCKAY, Raymond B.
Raymond B. McKay, 70, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Suffield, died peacefully on Tuesday, (September 24, 2013) at the York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, FL. He was born on March 22, 1943, in Hartford, son of the late Raymond J. and Anne E. (Wersauckas) McKay. Ray grew up in Suffield and graduated from Suffield Academy in 1961, and thereafter went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut in 1965 with a BA in Political Science (with a concentration in Public Administration and a minor in History). He was dedicated toward his career in the public sector, having worked for the state of Connecticut for 34 years. He worked from 1965-1971 at the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (the predecessor to the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection), in which he was responsible for public administration/budgetary assignments. Subsequently, he worked at the Central Office of the Community College System from 1971-72 (in administration also conducting budget analyses), while the remainder of his career (from 1972 onward) was at the Office of Policy and Management as a Principal Budget Analyst, which is the agency in which he retired. Early in his career, he worked as a police officer for the Town of Windsor, from 1967-69, and served in the Army National Guard and later the Air National Guard (from 1965-72). Ray was a proud Suffield native and spent the majority of his life living in that town, with having spent summers (since 1958) on Cedar Island in Clinton. He leaves his children, Matthew G. McKay of Gainesville, FL and Ashley A. Gallegos and her husband Reynaldo "Rey" of Sherman Oaks, CA.
