Rita Maloney Obituary



Rita (Ferrier) Maloney, 89, beloved wife for 62 years of the late Thomas J. Maloney, of West Hartford, died peacefully December 2, 2013 at Hughes Health & Rehab. She was born in Woonsocket, RI on June 2, 1924, daughter of the late Edward and Blanche (Hubert) Ferrier. Rita grew up in Frog Hollow, and graduated from Hartford Public High School. She worked throughout the Hartford area and retired from the American Radio Relay League. She also was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Burma Missions. Rita's true passion was cooking and playing cards together with her family. She is survived by her five children, John and Kathy Maloney of Enfield, Annmarie Maloney of West Hartford, Kathleen (Maloney) and Rafael Garbalosa of New Britain, James and Gail Maloney of Enfield, Thomas Maloney and fiancé Sandra Libby and their daughter Carlene of Cromwell; 12 grandchildren, Timothy and A.J. Garbalosa, Michael and Tracy Maloney, Richard Garbalosa, Shawn and Patricia Maloney, Kevin and Kristin Maloney, Leah (Maloney) and Gary Brooks, Erin (Maloney) and Andrew Nolin, Ryan Garbalosa, Scott and Andrea Maloney, Heather Maloney, Stephanie Maloney, and Amanda Maloney; 15 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Shelley, John Paul, Kolbe, Theresa, Elizabeth, Benedict, Felicity and Giulianna Maloney, Robert, Amber, Ashley and Devon Garbalosa, Quinlynn, and Avery Brooks; one great-great-granddaughter Hailee Maloney; several nieces and nephews and one special niece Janice McDevitt and her husband John. Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her son Robert R., three sisters, Alice Talbot, Claire Cordier, and Jeanne Martell; and two brothers, Raymond and Roland Ferrier and a daughter-in-law, Ann Maloney. Her family would like to thank Hughes Health and Rehabilitation Center for their helpful and caring staff during her stay there. Her funeral will be on Saturday, December 7, at 9AM from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Mark of Evangelist, West Hartford.
