ACKLEY, Robert "Bob" F.
Robert "Bob" F. Ackley, 68, of East Hartford, peacefully passed away on Saturday, (November 9, 2013) with his family by his side at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born in Reno, NV on January 31, 1945 he had been a resident of East Hartford for most of his life. He was a son of Louise F. (Chappell) Donovan of South Windsor and the late Raymond T. Donovan. Bob was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1963 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement in 1997, Bob was employed by the East Hartford Fire Department as a Firefighter for 26 years. He was a member of the former Volunteer Hose Company # 2, East Hartford and of the Police and Fireman's Club, East Hartford. Bob was a fan of automobiles and NASCAR racing. He will be remembered by most who knew him for riding around town in his red convertible with his best companion dog, "Rocky". Besides his mother, Louise, Bob is survived by a son, Aaron T. Ackley and his wife, Bonnie, of Accokeek, MD; two daughters, Alissa R. Ackley and her husband, Eric Bartholomay, of Seoul, South Korea, Amanda B. Ackley and her husband, Scott Graham, of Alexandria, VA; two sisters, Shelley Beadle and her husband, Edward, of East Hartford, Terryl Donovan-Lange and her husband, Robert, of Sea Cliff, NY; a half-sister, Ann-Marie Ackley Halsted; a dear friend, Violette Jakab of East Hartford; seven special grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the East Hartford Fire Department - EMS Fund, 31 School Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.
