Robert E. "Ike" Eickenhorst, 59, of Vernon, beloved husband of Susan (Zukas) Eickenhorst passed away, Tuesday, December 17, 2013. He was born May 9, 1954 in Hartford, the son of the late Richard and Elaine (Gaskell) Eickenhorst. He was a member of the Rockville Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed football, softball and bowling and was an avid fisherman and hunter that could spot a deer a mile away. He was a kind and gentle person, who loved his family, who's home became the hub for holiday gatherings, where his family looked forward to his fantastic dinners with his creative cooking. He was a devoted family man who will be greatly missed. Besides his wife of 36 years, he is survived by his daughter, Erin Eickenhorst and her significant other Eric Fearn of Newington; his son Michael and his wife Stefany Eickenhorst of Vernon ; his brother, Richard Eickenhorst and his wife Joanna of Canton; his adored grandson, Gavin "Peanut" Eickenhorst; and his neice, Ellen Eickenhorst. He is also survived by his in-laws, Thomas J. and Julie C. Dagle of East Hampton; his sisters-in-law, Julie Fisher and her partner Lauren Corbett, Virginia Criscitelli and her husband Ronald of Enfield, Jennifer Grimshaw and her husband Alex, Lindsey Gionfriddo and her husband David; and his brothers-in-law, Robert and his wife Nancy Zukas and Laurence Zukas and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the Hartford Hospital ICU for their wonderful care. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St. Rockville, CT 06066. A Funeral Home Service will follow at 11 AM at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
