REID, Robert Ross
Robert Ross Reid, 95, of Avon, beloved husband of Patricia Reid, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Hartford, son of the late Leslie Case and Edith (Ross) Reid, he lived in Avon for 33 years. Bob graduated from the Loomis School, UCONN, and the Institute of Accounting and served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He held several senior financial management positions with the Hartford Insurance Group in Chicago, Toronto, and Hartford before his retirement, after over 45 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and formerly the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Wheaton, IL and the Collinsville Congregational Church, where he served in many capacities including deacon, elder, and financial advisor. He truly loved cooking the men's breakfasts at the Collinsville church. Bob loved traveling with his family to places such as Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities. After retirement, he and Pat attended several Elder Hostel programs and traveled frequently. They were members of the Avon Seniors and regularly attended luncheons and programs. Bob was also member of the Farmington Valley Men's Club. Beside his wife of 54 years, Patricia, he leaves a son David Reid and his wife Kay Reid of Avon; a daughter Sandra Townsend and her husband Trevor of Amherst, NH; a granddaughter Nicole Townsend; a great grandson Wyatt Hicks of Murfreesboro, TN; three nephews Robert, Douglas, and Frank Bradley; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Bradley. The Reid family would like to thank the River Ridge Staff, especially the Harbor Unit, for their extraordinary care and attention.
