Runo PALMQUIST Obituary





PALMQUIST, Runo

Runo Palmquist, 92, beloved husband of Norma (Amore) Frischkorn Palmquist of South Windsor, died Tuesday (October 29, 2013) at home. Born in Sweden on May 11, 1921 son of the late William and Ida (Jonson) Palmquist, he grew up in Springfield, MA and moved to South Windsor in the late 1950's. He was naturalized as a United States citizen and was an U.S. Army Veteran during World War II and was decorated with five medals, including a bronze star for bravery. Before retiring he was employed as an Experimental engineer for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford. Runo was a member of Calvary Church of West Hartford and was very involved and served as a deacon for many years. He loved taking road trips in his motor home and traveled to Alaska and through out the US in his 80's. In addition to his wife, Norma, he leaves his children, Stephen Palmquist and his wife, Deborah of Manchester, Timothy Palmquist and his wife, Janice of Ansonia, Daniel Palmquist and his wife, Lisa of Hamden and Susan Vallario and her husband, Marc of South Windsor; step-children, Patricia Thomas of South Windsor, Dorothy Joyce and her husband, Patrick of South Windsor; grandchildren, David, Matthew, Joshua, Michael, Daniel, Elizabeth and Joanna, step grandchildren, Carl, Evan, Matthew, Nathan and Kelsey and seven great grandchildren. He also leaves nieces and nephews. Runo was predeceased by his first wife, Louise (Lucia) Palmquist. His family extends a heartfelt thank you for the care that he received from, Home Instead Senior Care, VITAS Hospice, A Caring Hand, Vernon and good friend Dorothy Beatty.
His family will receive friends on Sunday Nov. 3 from 2-4 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Church, 1855 Albany Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be held privately at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield, MA.
