Dear Sumner Family ~ What a surprise to discover Sumner's name in the Suffield Observer obituaries column. My sincere sympathy to you all. I met Sumner through my brother George who were both proud of being Marine brothers. I will miss Sumner popping in on his way to the West Suffield VFW to give me pictures of my deceased brother or whatever.
My brother talked well & respected Sumner very much - a GOOD man. They are both upstairs now & I can just imagine what they are talking about now!

Gary, Sorry for your loss. I don't know if you remember me but I grew up on Matianuck Ave across from Sunnyside Circle.

Sumner taught me a lot when I was just a little kid. How to spit, which I was told I would do every time he did. LOL! He bought a Green Corvette racecar, so that he could beat me with my favorite car on the racecar track he and Mom bought me. We worked on one of his boats and use to go salt-water fishing. I remember the two sand sharks we hooked. I remember Tammy and his SNET truck, which she protected for him. My siblings and I use to also have a great time at his house. He had really nice hound dogs. I could go on for some time, but I know we all have memories that he made possible. I made a point to go see him when I was 48 years old. That was 40 years since I had seen him, but he still had that cheery look in his eyes when he laughed. So thankful that I was able to thank him for all he did for me and to be able to send him a birthday card for his 88th birthday. RIP Sumner!! Best Regards, Rob West
