Sylvia Georgeadis Obituary

Sylvia Georgeadis, 67, of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 8, 2013 after a courageous battle with breast cancer that spanned over the last ten years. She was able to find the best in every day and was able to thank God for every one she lived. Sylvia was born on February 5, 1946 in New Kensington, PA. She was the daughter of the late Pete and Mary Rodites of New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Sylvia was the high school sweetheart and wife of Alexander Georgeadis for over 49 years. Sylvia moved to South Windsor, CT in 1964 where she lived for 40 years. She was a legal secretary in Hartford, South Windsor and Vernon, CT for several years. Sylvia also served as president of the South Windsor YW Club where she and her husband enjoyed the many people they met while living there. In 1985 Sylvia took a job as a guidance secretary at South Windsor High School where she worked until her retirement in 2006. She so much enjoyed working with the guidance department that was a second family to her. She loved all the students she was able to help through the years with their college search process. They loved calling her "Mrs. G." Some of Sylvia's favorite pastimes were reading, cooking, and taking college courses at the local community college. Her best times were those spent with her husband and children by birth and by marriage as well as her six grandchildren. They were all the joy of her life. Sylvia loved watching her grandchildren finding joy in the same things she once enjoyed as a child. She was a long time member of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Hartford, CT. She was also an editor of the church newspaper, "The Saint George Herald," and also the "St. George Consecration Book." After retiring to Saratoga Springs, NY she became a member of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Albany, NY.
She is survived by husband Alexander, a son, Nicholas and Amy Georgeadis and a daughter Maria and Josh Muldner, all of New York State. Besides them, she is also survived by six loving grandchildren: Austin, Alexis, Marina, Juliana, Thomas, and Mitchell. Sylvia is also survived by a sister Anita and George Burgard of East Pittsburgh, PA. as well as her husband's siblings and their children and grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, 11 a.m., at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany, NY. Friends and family may call on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue (Rt. 9), Saratoga Springs, NY. Interment in Maplewood Cemetery, Saratoga Springs, NY. A luncheon will be held following the burial in Saratoga Springs, NY. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or http://ww5.komen.org/. A special thanks to Dr. Nini Wu and PA Lisa Wolf of New York Oncology Hematology in Albany as well to her small family of nurses in the Infusion Lab who she knew and loved so much. Today is Sunday, January 8, 2023. I just found this site as I looked as Sylvia's Obit. As I read the memories submitted by many, it brought both tears and smiles. I thank you all for your kind words.

Dear Mr. Georgeadis, dear Maria, dear Nick,
Maybe you don't remember me: I spent 3 wonderful weeks at your place in South Windsor in 1991 or 1992, coming from France with my high school from Gisors. I was trying to get in touch with you over the last days and I finally found this terrible article about your wife and mother. I am very sorry for your loss, very sorry for Sylvia's suffering. And I'm angry at myself because I couldn't tell her how wonderful it has been staying with the four of you... The smell of vanilla in her car, the first time I drove to a drive-in to get her morning coffee... The first time I saw Total Recall, with the three of us women sitting and laughing... She was a loving person who has impacted my life and will always remain in my memory. It is too late now to tell her all this, but I wanted you to know that my thoughts are with you.

Mr. G, Nick and Maria,

I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart absolutely breaks for you and your families. Mrs. G was one-of-a-kind, and she will be truly missed. Some of my favorite times in high school were spent hanging out with her in the Guidance office. I can still see her bright eyes and smiling face like it was yesterday. Mrs. G was a beautiful person with a heart of gold. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
