HOLT, Virginia
Virginia Wohlleib Holt, passed away on Wednesday, (May 1, 2013) in Chula Vista, CA where she lived at the time. She was born Nov. 27, 1914. Virginia leaves three children, Pamela Thomas of Hebron, CT, Joanne Bero of San Diego, CA and John Wohlleib of Shrewsbury, MA, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Virginia is also survived by daughter-in- law, Helen Holt of Saugus, MA. She was predeceased by two loving husbands; Charles Wohlleib and Charles Holt and her two stepsons Richard Holt and John Holt. Virginia devoted much of her life to helping others though volunteering. In the late 1940's and early 50's she was a member of the Auxiliary for the Canton Volunteer Fire Department. She helped organize and worked at, the annual carnival on the Green, a major source of revenue for the Fire Dept at that time. Later in the 50's she was very active in the Canton PTA, organizing and performing in the stage production "Continental Review" for the benefit of the schools. She was also a Girl Scout leader during this period. In Auburn, MA she worked for Christopher House transporting patients in need of medical care. After moving to the Boston area, she volunteered at My Brothers Table preparing food and serving it to people in need. She volunteered in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where she fed patients unable to feed themselves and visited others that were recovering without family. Virginia was a volunteer zoo guide at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA where she was trained to handle all of the animals that she was capable of lifting.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial honoring her life will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Collinsville, CT. Her ashes will be interred in Dyer Cemetery, Canton, CT, next to her husband Charles Wohlleib, following the church service. I am so sorry for your loss. Virginia will be remembered as great lady and a very close friend of my mother, Wanda Mahoney. Wanda and Virginia had some wonderful times together. Mary Mahoney Weiss
