AITKEN, Vivian T. (Varin)
Vivian T. (Varin) Aitken, 87, formerly of South Windsor, died October 7, 2013 in Leominster, MA after a long illness. She was born Nov. 23, 1925 in Colchester, VT to the late Emma (Hudon) Varin and Hormidas "Amos" Varin of Bolton, VT. As a child she briefly had a pet baby alligator, a beloved dog Buster, built a full size rowboat and was a star field hockey player. She became a teacher and taught in VT, MA and for many years at Pleasant Valley School in South Windsor, CT. She loved flower gardening, square and round dancing, the ocean, travel and was a member of New Covenant UMC. She is survived by her twin daughters Sue Ann Sinnamon (formerly Sue Ann Beckman) and Jo Ann Pierce, grandchildren Sarah Beckman, Emma Beckman and Geoffrey Magee, and various nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William A. Aitken and her sister Agnes "Peggy" Varin.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. at New Covenant United Methodist Church, 16 Church St., East Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or www.alz.org.
