BRIERTON, Walter J. Jr.
Walter J. Brierton, Jr., 81, of East Hartford, loving husband for 47 years of the late Valerie (Cataldi) Brierton, passed away peacefully on Monday, (September 9, 2013) at Hartford Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 15, 1932, son of the late Walter and Agnes Brierton, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Walter was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1951 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was the owner and sole operator of "Mr. Coffe" Catering. He was a former member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #2083, East Hartford and enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Celtics, and UCONN basketball games. However, most of all Walter loved spending time with his family (especially his two grandchildren) and going to dinner with his "Friday Night Dinner Club" at Roma's Restaurant in East Hartford. Walter is survived by a son, Robert Brierton and his wife, Maureen Breyan, of South Windsor; a daughter, Lori Kubick and her husband, Ray, of North Haven; two adored grandchildren, Allison and Jared Kubick of North Haven. He also leaves a sister, Susan Rugg and her husband, Brynn, of Candia, NH; a brother-in-law, George Cataldi of Midlothian, VA; several nieces, nephews, dear friends, and former customers. Besides his beloved wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Francis Brierton.
Funeral services will be Saturday (September 14th) at 10:30 am at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private entombment will be at the convenience of the family at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Hartford. Military honors will follow the funeral service on Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Saturday morning from 9 am to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Walter's name may be made to the Hartford Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, 80 Seymour Street, Hartford, CT 06101.
