William Bacon Obituary

William "Bill" Converse Bacon, 71, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Renee DeSalvatore, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, surrounded by family at home. Born in Pittsfield, MA on September 26, 1942, son of the late Richard and Dorothy Lewis (Bishop) Bacon, he was raised in Lakeville and had lived in Simsbury and Granville, MA, before moving to Bloomfield 27 years ago. Bill was a 1960 graduate of The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville. After finishing high school, Bill attended Colby College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Vietnam era, returning after his discharge to New York where he took a position with IBM in data processing. Bill later worked in data processing and IT at Combustion Engineering in Windsor and then as a project manager at Cigna Insurance Company. In his spare time, he was a creative and capable Mr. Fixit who would cheerfully tackle any job. He also enjoyed hiking and spending time in the great outdoors with his family and friends. His favorite place, which he visited every summer, was Acadia National Park in Maine. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William "Skip" Converse Bacon, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Atherton, CA; two daughters, Jennifer Bacon Burk and her husband, Bill, of Mechanicsville, VA, and Victoria "Tori" Petty and her husband, John, of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Carol Bray and her husband, Gary, of Franklin, NC; ten grandchildren, Paul, Lacie, Gracie, Ellie, Aaron, Sophie, Hannah, Lucie, Lily-Rose, and William, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his stepmother, Eleanor (Adams) Bacon. His family will receive friends on TODAY, Saturday, January 4, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home at 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor. Burial will be private. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at McLean Hospice, the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center, and ComForcare for all of their care and support during this difficult time. In memory of Bill's love of nature, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203 or www.nature.org/donate, or to the Farmington Valley Trails Council, P.O. Box 576, Tariffville, CT 06081. My sincere condolences

It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Bill during the past 16 year. Bill was a good friend and a great mentor. He knew how to get things done and was a huge asset to Cigna. I'll miss those “Bacon Bits” and his common sense approach towards life. I'll miss those interesting conversations over lunch, where I always learned something new.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayed are with Renee and the Bacon family during this difficult time. May you find comfort with memories of Bill, for a memory is a keepsake of time that lives in your heart forever.

I'll miss you my friend and hope to see you again in that better place
