MANN, William H.


William Hamilton Mann of Hickory Circle, Middletown, beloved husband of Carol Soderlind Mann died on Wednesday, (July 10, 2013) at Middlesex Hospital. He was born on Dec. 9, 1925, in Middletown, son of Edward F. Mann and Genevieve (Bride) Mann, and was a lifelong resident of Middletown. During World War II, Mann served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and then as an Infantry Sergeant in the U.S. Army, in both the European and Pacific Theatres; and later returned to active duty with K Company, 169th Infantry 43rd Division during the Korean War. Mann has been active in the Middletown community as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, being named Irishman of the Year in 1989. He was also a member of the Forest City Council #3 Knights of Columbus, Past President of the St. John's School PTA, a realtor and past President of the Realtor Board of Greater Middletown, and a member of the Post #75 American Legion. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Pius X Church. Mr. Mann has been a past member of the Middletown Democratic Town Committee and was reelected for six consecutive terms as the Treasurer for the City of Middletown and was the Democratic nominee for Mayor in 1987. Mr. Mann was associated with Coughlin and Pattee Real Estate and served as president of Residential Sales before joining Liberty Bank as a Mortgage and Loan Officer. Upon his retirement in 1993, Mr. Mann was a Special Deputy with the Middlesex Superior Court and then as an active Judicial Marshall. Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children: Barbara O'Rourke and her husband Dennis, Edward Mann and his wife Jillene, William Mann and his partner Timothy Huber, and Kathleen Mann. He is also survived by his six much loved grandchildren, Brigid Brady and her husband Brian, Liam O'Rourke and his wife Jessica, Siobhan Hennessy and her husband Troy, Melissa Warrek and her husband Beau, Matthew Mann and Dayna Mann. He also has five great-grandchildren: Delia and Aine Brady, Abigail Warrek and Travis and Amanda Watrous. Mr. Mann is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Genevieve and Ted Dickinson, sister-in-law Patricia Mann, and many nieces and nephews. Mann was predeceased by his brother Captain James E. Mann. Special thanks are given to the kind, caring, and compassionate staffs at Water's Edge, Center for Health and Rehabilitation, and the Middlesex Hospice Unit.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy in St. Pius X Church, Westfield St., Middletown. Burial, with military honors, will be in the State Veterans' Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Pall bearers are daughter, Kathleen Mann, grandsons Liam O'Rourke and Matthew Mann, and grandsons-in-law Brian Brady, Beau Warrek, and Troy Hennessy. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Donations can be made in his name to the Middlesex Hospice Unit at Middlesex Hospital, c/o Dept. of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457 or to the Captain James E.
