Winifred Brown

Winifred "Winnie" (Bentley) Brown, 79, of Southington, widow of Earl U. Brown, passed away Sunday (January 26, 2014) at Hartford Hospital. Born in New Britain, Winnie was a former Kensington resident until moving to Southington in 1966. A graduate of Berlin High School, she was formerly employed at CL&P and later E.W. Mildrum Insurance in Berlin for over 10 years until retiring in 1994. Winnie was a longtime active member of the Kensington United Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed, especially for her cooking and baking. Surviving is her daughter, Sandy "Sam" Brown of Plantsville; a brother-in-law, Dale Akehurst of Kensington; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Bentley of Berlin, Lenore Bentley in Florida, and Norma Northam of Memphis, TN; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews. Besides her husband Earl, she was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services are Thursday 11 AM at Kensington United Methodist Church, 103 Hotchkiss Street, Kensington, CT 06037. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
