Alan G. MACFARLANE Obituary

Alan G. Macfarlane, 71, a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and brother, passed away on February 25, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Alan was one of five children born to the late Frank and Miriam (Griffin) Macfarlane. He had very fond memories of growing up in East Hartford and took pride in being a well known and respected member of the 'Burnside' community. After high school he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country. Upon returning home he held various jobs such as a mechanic for Charlie's and a salesman for the Cain's Food Company. In 1962 Alan married Helen (Gallas) and the two relocated to Manchester to settle down and start a family. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last June. In 1987 he fulfilled his lifelong dream and opened Mac's Auto Repair in Manchester, which he owned and operated until he retired to Florida in 2005. Alan loved to talk and had a never ending trail of stories wherever he went. His gift of gab secured him a place in the hearts and souls of everyone he ever came in contact with. Alan was preceded in death by his brother Gordon and sister Miriam (Molly) Macfarlane both of East Hartford. He is survived by his spouse Helen of Melbourne Beach, Fl; his son Scott (Mary-Lynne) Macfarlane of Indialantic, FL; his son Todd Macfarlane of Key West, FL; his daughter Shelley (Mark) Adams of Vernon; his brother Brian (Christine) Macfarlane of East Hartford; his sister Janice Bojko of Wethersfield; his grandchildren Ashley, Christopher, Alexa, Madison and Chase; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and life-long friends.
