Bob Lang Obituary

LANG, Bob Bob Lang, 75, died Saturday, (August 22, 2009) at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. Born in Hartford, son of the late George and Lorinda Mae (Fay) Lang, he lived in the Hartford area most of his life before becoming a resident of Windsor for many years. He later retired to Sebago Lake in Raymond, ME and wintered in Hudson, FL. He was a graduate of Weaver High School and Hartford State Technical College then served two years in the U.S. Navy aboard the oceanographic survey ship AGS-SANPABLO. Bob worked for several years at Underwood Typewriter and Hamilton Standard. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Hartford, he entered the graduate Doctoral program at the University of Connecticut while working at the Porter School of Design in Rocky Hill. Bob was an Associate Professor in Central Connecticut State University's Engineering Technology department and retired in 1994 after many years of service. Bob was an avid sportsman and raised award winning English Setter dogs for field trials. He was a member and past president of the Windsor Rod and Gun Club. Over the course of his adult life, Bob's interest in antique fishing tackle evolved from that of an amateur collector to an internationally renowned expert in the field. He consulted at a Kennebunk Maine auction gallery for many years and subsequently established Lang's Sporting Collectables, Inc. - America's Leading Fishing Tackle Auctions. Bob was a member of the NFLCC (National Fly Lure Collector's Club), authored articles in Sporting Classics & Sports Afield magazines and appeared in Sports Illustrated. Bob was featured in a Forbes magazine article entitled "Lured In", highlighting his influence on the rapid gain in popularity of antique fishing tackle collectables. In his later years, Bob was an avid dancer and a fan of country music. His energy, spirit and ability to live life to its fullest was an inspiration to many and will be missed greatly. Bob shared his life with wife, Alice Lang of Windsor and daughters, Patti Kolodziejczyk of Canton and Deb Beaudoin of Simsbury. He also leaves behind his ever-helpful son-in-law, Andy Kolodziejczyk and beloved grandchildren, Ryan Robert and Julia Mae, all of Canton. Bob is survived by his brother, Bill and wife Pat Lang of Newington; brother- in-law Neil Hollis of Grandville MA, as well as several dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, George Lang and sister, Bette Hollis. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 28, 11 a.m. at Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock section of Windsor. It is of much sadness to hear the loss of Bob, what a terrific fellow, he danced every dance the week before. A lot of people could not believe his stamina... There was not many nights that at least someone would ask him his age... and would shake his hand out of respect and admiration... He will be missed in Mechanic Falls at the Silver Spur dance hall and the Knights of Columbus in Lewiston, Maine during the summer and fall months...

Alice, Patty, Debbie, It was with much sadness that we heard of the loss of Bob. We were just speaking the other day that it was time to go see him as we do every summer. He was a wonderful man who we respected and admired. We are fortunate to have many fond memories of times spent over the years. Our condolences to you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Lloyd & Ann Lindholm
