As a life's learner, he thoroughly enjoyed world history, geography and applied sciences; he was self-taught in engineering and construction principles. Over the years, he became sufficiently proficient in manufacturing and mechanical engineering such that he earned a position as a plant engineer with LaFrance Manufacturing, in Philadelphia, PA. He built his first home and constructed a dune-buggy from the shell of a VW Beetle. He loved fishing and spent endless hours fishing with his son and brother in NC and elsewhere. In his retirement he enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren, walking the beach with his dog and going for long drives. Charles was a fun loving person, always ready with a good joke, hefty smile or infectious laugh. To all who knew and loved him, he will be forever remembered as "the guy with two thumbs up!"
