GUARI, Christopher Michael

Christopher Michael Guari, age 47, of Brooklyn, died Saturday (March 2, 2013) at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born February 21, 1966 in Buffalo, NY, son of Christine (Rutkowski) Guari of Brooklyn and the late Michael Guari. He was married to his best friend Colleen (Burke) Guari on October 22, 1994. Chris joined the CT State Police in January of 1987, retiring on March 1, 2013. He served as a Patrol Trooper, Duty Sergeant, Sergeant of the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, Acting Commanding Officer of the State Fire Marshal Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, Arson Detection Dog Handler, was in charge of the State Police Security Detail for President Bush's visit to the Coast Guard Academy Graduation Ceremony and was the 1st Resident Trooper of Brooklyn. He was the recipient of the Arnold Markle Distinguished Service Award 2011, Outstanding Service Award 2001 and received Unit Citations from EDMC and Troop E. He was a USAR team leader. He was currently Deputy Chief and past Chief of the Mortlake Fire Company. He was a Certified Fire Investigator and was Investigator of the Year for 2003. Chris was a member of the Danielson Lodge of Elks, IAAI National CT Chapter, Litchfield County Fire Marshal Association, Windham County Fire Marshal Association, CT IAAI and Coach for the Central Mass Invaders. He loved coaching his kids in football and softball and enjoyed boating, camping and fishing. Besides his wife and his mother he is also survived by his children, Eric Bunning and fiancée Tashia Marineau, Hannah and Sydney Guari. Christopher was the proud papa of Elexus Bunning. He is also survived by his brother, John Guari of Brooklyn, brother, Kevin Guari and wife Sharon of Buffalo, NY; sister Noel Coraccio and husband Phil of Brooklyn and sister Norine (Guari) Bushen and husband Bill of Buffalo, NY, father-in-law Jack Burke and wife Mary Jane; brother-in-law Michael Burke and wife Nichole; sister-in-law Kelley (Burke) Rochefort and husband Rocky and several nieces and nephews that he thought the world of and numerous friends and family. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Elizabeth Burke. The Family would like to thank the 12th Floor Smilow Cancer Center and Dr. Kluger and her team.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, Danielson, meeting directly at church. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Brooklyn. Calling hours will be held in Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. Parking for calling hours will be available at the old Killingly High School on Westfield Avenue with a shuttle bus service to Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven, Closer to Free, P.O.
