Deborah Knapp ADAMS Obituary
ADAMS, Deborah Knapp Deborah Knapp Adams, wife of Joseph A. Adams, passed away suddenly Thursday, (February 11, 2010), at Woodlake at Tolland. Deborah was born in Danbury, CT, May 4, 1937, daughter of the late F. Richmond and Eleanor Merrill Knapp. Deborah grew up in West Mystic, CT, attended Fitch High School, and graduated from Colby Junior College. After graduation she worked at Travelers Insurance Company. She went on to have a 34 year career in banking at Hartford National Bank and retired from Shawmut National Bank as Vice President. Debbie was on the Board of Governors of the Hartford Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, a member of the South Hartford Business & Professional Assn., a charter member of the Hartford Chapter of Financial Women International, and a treasurer and board member of the Hartford Women's Network. After retirement, she went to work for the CT Conference of UCC, in charge of planned giving. She was very active at Center Congregational Church, Manchester as a deaconess, Chairman of the Board of Education, and other positions on multiple boards and committees. She gave many hours to raising money for various Hartford-area causes. Deborah was pre-deceased by her brother, Peter Merrill Knapp. Besides her husband Joseph, she leaves her sister-in-law, Christa, niece Merrill, nephews Andreas (wife Patricia), and Tristan, grand-nephews Justin, Stewart, and Leander, grand-niece Emily, cousins Gail, Sue, and Fay, step-son Allen (wife Denisa), step-daughter Courtney, step-grandchildren Griffin and Haven, beloved extended family, and of course, Max the cat. Debbie loved her family and friends, and gave generously of her time and spirit. Visiting hours will be held Friday, February 19, 2010, from 4-7 p.m., at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street, Manchester, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018, or to Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Street, Manchester, CT, 06040.
