Debra Nolan Obituary

Beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, Debra Jean Thurston Nolan entered eternal life with our Lord Jesus Christ on January 5, 2016, the eve of the Epiphany. She received her last rites and was surrounded by her loving family. Debra is survived by her parents: William and Jeannine Thurston; her children: Alisha and Robert Herrington, Captain Sean and Celine Nolan, and Allison and Robert Kennedy; her grandchildren: Kaela, Benjamin and Samuel Herrington, Keegan and Paige Kennedy, and Caleb Nolan; her siblings Elizabeth and David Eddy, Bill and Chrissy Thurston, Linda Gannon and David Lucas, Lisa and Bob Wilson, B.J. and Brian Hooker; and numerous special nieces and nephews. Debbie loved her family deeply and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Debbie gave of her love freely, was kind and patient, and had a deep and profound love for our Lord. Debbie was involved in many ministries at St Mary Church in Coventry, CT including Life in the Spirit Seminars, RCIA, Enthronements of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Prayer Groups, ACTS retreats, was a novice in the Lay Fraternity of St. Dominic and had been pursuing a masters degree in theology at Holy Apostles College. She regularly covered nighttime Adoration hours, attended Mass daily, and prayed the Rosary often. Debbie loved family gatherings, card and board games, gardening, swimming, theology, bird watching, biology, fishing, healing prayer, collecting gemstones and stamps, showing Siamese cats, and breeding tropical fish. Debbie loved to sing and found incredible enjoyment listening to Christian music. She attended St. James School, East Catholic High School, and became a teacher upon graduation from Fairfield University. She home-schooled her children and took them to daily swimming practice. She loved to watch her nieces and nephews play sports and participate in church dramas. Debbie worked at MTM Corporation with her brother for over 15 years. In 2012, Debbie moved to Florida to help raise her grandchildren and assist in the care of her parents. Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2013. We miss her dearly! Debbie's life will be celebrated at Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 13th at St. Mary Church at 9 am, located at 1600 Main Street in Coventry. A procession will take place to St. James Cemetery for an Interment of Ashes at 11am, located at 360 Broad Street in Manchester. Immediately following, family and friends will gather for a reception at Cheney Hall located at 177 Hartford Road, Manchester.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your aunt Debra. I know you find comfort in her passing in the knowledge that she now resides in the Kingdom of the Lord, but I hope you and your entire family weather this storm as well as one can and are brought even closer together passing through it.

My most vivid memory of Debbie was when she and my brother moved to Houston and brought like 1000 Siamese cats. They all stayed in our house. We had a room devoted just to the cats! My thoughts are with you all. Prayers for strength and God's loving arms around you.

Dearest Thurston family,

Deb was my best friend in high school although I'm sorry to say that we've not kept in touch over the years.

We shared an infinite number of good times and those memories are now flooding back to mind, as well as many tears.
Deb was a great friend and a wonderful human being and in reading the information contained in her obituary, it seems that she had quite a full life. Kids and grandkids ! Lucky her~ that would have been something to see ! She had such a kind heart, I'm not surprised in the least that she was surrounded by such a large family .

My condolences to all of you...and I am truly sorry for your loss.

Blessings to all of you and bless her into the light.

To the Family:

This is a terribly sad event for the Class of 1970. We who were her classmates remember her as kind, with a special sweetness and gentleness that we could always depend upon. She is our valued classmate and friend, and we are so sorry for your devastating loss and sorrow, which we know are profound.

Please know that a portion of your pain is shared by Debbie's East Catholic classmates. We pray that this brings you some small measure of comfort.

Offering our very deepest sympathy,

Noreen Palladino Cullen
Class of 1970, ECHS

Mr & Mrs Thurston - So sorry for your loss. Parents should not have to bury their children (at any age). My thoughts are with you. Linda and your siblings - so very sad, too young! Thinking of all of you.
