AEKUS, Faye S. (Light) Faye S. (Light) Aekus of East Hartford, widow of Neil "Butch" Aekus, died Thursday, (July 15, 2004) at Riverside Healthcare in East Hartford. She was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Washington, ME. The daughter of the late Roy and Edith Light, she moved to East Hartford with her family as a child, and lived the rest of her life there. Surviving her are her two sons, Craig Aekus and his wife Almira of Whitingham, VT, and David Aekus and his wife Susan of Manchester. Also surviving her are two grandchildren, Natasha and Elizabeth Aekus of Whitingham, VT. She was predeceased by her brother, Wesley Light and is survived by two brothers, Frank Light of Nogales, AZ and Richard Light of Marlborough; and three sisters, Phyllis Tucker of Chandler AZ, Gloria Gagnon of Brooklyn, CT and Lyla Tessier of Montville; as well as many nieces and nephews. Faye was a lifetime member of South Congregational Church of East Hartford. She was a member of the East Hartford's Woman's Club and The Eastern Star. She was an active member in her community participating in the town's Mentoring program and a supporter of the YMCA, as well as a volunteer for the Bushnell in Hartford. Calling hours will be Sunday, July 18, from 5-8 p.m. at the Callahan Funeral Home, 1602 Main Street, East Hartford. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 19, at the South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Al Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the South Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford, CT 06118 or to the East Hartford Woman's Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 380401, East Hartford, CT 06138.
