BAUMAN, George

George "Butch" Bauman, 73, of Plainville, passed peacefully from this Earth and was reunited with his grandsons, Tony and Chrissy Bauman on May 16, 2013. George was born at Sisseton Indian Health Hospital in Sisseton, SD on March 7, 1940 to Francis Baumann and Laura Donnell Baumann Jones. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in Aberdeen, SD and attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. George proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 - 1963. After his discharge from the Army, George moved to Connecticut and married Linda Bauman and together they raised their family. George was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed playing football in high school, college and with the Eastern Football League semi-pro teams the Meriden Shamrocks and the Southington Gems. George was employed by Carpenter Construction in Bristol for 20+ years until he retired in 2000. He was a proud member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Indian tribe in South Dakota. George is survived by his children, Kenneth Bauman of Bristol, Karl Bauman and his wife Lisa of Bristol, Kris Spence and her husband Rusty of Plainville, Kami Bauman of Plainville and Brandon Bemis of Bristol. He also leaves his grandchildren, Randy Bauman, Niki Spence, Adam Willis, Kevin Spence, Grace Bauman, Mary Bauman, Emily Bauman, Kaitlin Bauman and great-grandson, Anthony Bauman. George is also survived by siblings Frances Johnson, Eden, SD, Victor "John" Baumann of Wheaton, MN and Peggy Johnson and her husband Dave of Eden, SD. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Joseph Baumann, Dorothy Scrimsher, Mary Sippel and Theresa "Ann" Selzler. The family would like to thank the entire VITAS Hospice staff, especially Betsy, Jen, Blanca, Janice, Bob, Millie and Maria as well as the staff at the VITAS Hospice unit at St. Mary's Hospital for allowing George's last weeks to be lived with dignity.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at the chapel at the State of Connecticut Veterans' Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT.
