Herbert J. SEGAR Obituary
SEGAR, Herbert J. Herbert James Segar of Storrs passed away Tuesday (June 29, 2010) of pancreatic cancer. The beloved husband of the late Rosemary Agnes Segar of 62 years. The loving father of Mary Kay Segar Wood of Concord, MA, James Segar of Clearwater FL, Peggy Segar Guss of West Palm Beach FL, David Segar of Duxbury, MA, Theresa Rose Segar (deceased), Robert Segar of Ellington, CT, Ellen Segar of Manchester, CT, and Kevin Segar of Storrs, CT. Herb was the cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren; Jennifer Wood Nugent, Diana Wood Gallagher, Heather Guss, Robert Guss, Stephanie Segar, Amanda Segar, Ryan Segar, Kelly Segar and two great- grandchildren, Padraig Nugent and Clara Nugent. He was born on March 2, 1922 in Lebanon, CT and grew up in the Willimantic area, graduating from Windham High School, where he met Rosemary. He attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years until the war broke out and then he entered the Army Air Corps. He spent over 25 years of his adult career at the Electro Motive Manufacturing Company in Willimantic where he rose to the position of Vice President of Manufacturing. He was president of the Little League; he enjoyed bowling and was a long time member of the Willimantic Elks Club. Herb served on the Board of Education in the town of Mansfield for over 15 years and as chairman for several years. He was instrumental in the building of the Mansfield Middle School. A Scholarship Fund is being established in his name at the E. O. Smith High School for a graduating senior.
