FORAN, Jean Elizabeth Thompson Jean Elizabeth Thompson Foran, died Thursday, (February 10, 2005). She was born March 16, 1937. She is survived by her husband, Thomas. Jean was the eldest daughter of the late Emerson W. and Geraldine Mosher Thompson. Jean received a BS degree in Elementary Education and an MS degree in TESOL from Cental Connecticut State University. She taught in the Berlin and New Britain, school districts. She also taught in several different schools in East Hartford and then in the O'Brien School for eight years before her retirement in 1997. Mrs. Foran also taught in both the Truk (Chuuk) and Ponape (Pohnpei) Districts of the Caroline Islands in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands under the auspices of the Department of the Interior and the United Nations for five years. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer/Demonstration Teacher in Balayan, Batangas in the Philippines for two years with her family. During the last years of her teaching career and after her retirement from public school teaching, she worked as a consultant in English Unlimited, with her husband, Thomas. She was a consultant/author for several publishing companies in the field of language education. Mrs. Foran has presented many workshops and language methodology demonstrations throughout New England. She leaves sons, Christopher and his wife, Christina Beck of Roxbury, MA and Kirkland of Marlborough, and two grandchildren, Danielle and Cody Foran. She is also survived by three sisters, Judith and husband John Clark of Portland, Joan and husband Bruce Davidson of East Hartford and Jacqueline and husband William Bassell of Wethersfield. She also leaves many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Being very interested in genealogy, she was proud to be a direct descendant of the fourth Governor of Connecticut, Thomas Welles, and of Thomas Thompson, both of whom came from England to settle in Connecticut in the 1630's. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's name may be sent payable to Middlesex Weiss Hospice Unit and mailed to Middlesex Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457 or to your favorite charity. Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, February 14, at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. There will be a Celebration of Her Life at 6 p.m.
