Jean Fergusson HOBSON Obituary

HOBSON, (Jean Fergusson)

Jean Fergusson Hobson, only child and daughter of Dr. Frederick and Laura Fergusson, age 83, passed away on June 2, 2012. A resident of Scottsdale, AZ since 2000, Jean was born in Kulm, ND, on March 25, 1929. She was valedictorian of her high school class in Kulm. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Northwestern University where she met her former husband, John. Jean was co-founder of Hobson Associates in Southington, CT, where she worked as an administrative assistant and public relations liaison. Jean also volunteered for many years as a caregiver, both in hospitals and care homes. Jean's most significant contribution, and greatest joy, was being a dedicated and devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was the heart of her family and all were welcome in her home, particularly young people with whom she especially enjoyed visiting. Jean loved to dance, do water aerobics, travel, support her favorite NBA and college basketball teams and to dress always in pink. Jean traveled across the world and lived in many parts of the US, including Rhode Island, Texas, Indiana, Southern California, Virginia and Connecticut before settling in Arizona to reside near her family and enjoy the sunshine and active lifestyle that she loved so much. Jean is survived by her four loving children (Laura, Phyllis, John and Sarah), 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. They were the true happiness of her life and brought her much love, joy and laughter, as she did for them all. Jean's family includes: Daughter and son-in law Laura and Gary Minor of Shiloh, IL with grandchildren Jason and Kate Butler (Great grandchildren Rosalee, John and Westford) of Warren, VT, Sean Butler and Corey Campbell of Evergreen, CO, Michelle and Matt Mosler (Great- granddaughter Layla Jean) of Vacaville, CA and Kristen Butler and fiancé Brian Colwell of Gulf Breeze, FL; Daughter and son-in-law Phyllis and Richard Clement, M.D. of Paradise Valley, AZ with grandchildren Nicholas of Brentwood, CA, Kimberly and Matthew Gilmore of Brentwood, CA and Christopher of Phoenix, AZ; Son and daughter-in-law John and Linda Hobson of Huntington Beach, CA with grandchildren Cole and Hunter Hobson of Huntington Beach, CA and Jeannie and Danny Moore (Great-grandsons Beckett, Landon and Emmett of Imperial, CA); Daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Paul Harari, M.D. with grandchildren Colin, Leah, Julia and Paige of Madison, WI. In addition, she loved and was loved in a very special way by the Williams (Dr. Roger and Phyllis; Arnold and Millie) families of Austin, TX, Boulder, CO and San Jose, CA. A very special, warm and heart-felt thank you to Rodica Nicula of Sun Valley Assisted Living Homes, Scottsdale, AZ for the love and devotion she extended to Jean over the last decade as her caregiver. Jean's family will always be grateful to and for you. You were like another daughter for our mom.
In lieu of flowers, Jean and her family would be honored by donations to Sun Valley Assisted Living Home, 17245 North 56th Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85254 (602-788-6908) in Jean's name. Private family services will be held and arrangements are being entrusted to Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary.
