John GROTH Obituary

GROTH, John Adam John Adam Groth, 20, of 5 Mill Street, died Wednesday (November 25, 2009) as the result of an automobile accident in West Hartland. Born on Nov. 27, 1988 in Hartford, he was the son of Harold "Bud" and Joanne (King) Groth and had lived most of his life in West Hartland. He was a 2006 graduate of The Gilbert School in Winsted and currently was a senior at UConn Storrs looking forward to completing his studies in kinesiology and nutrition. His down time was spent being with his friends and family. John Adam started gymnastics at an early age and never lost his love for it. He was State "All Around" Champion in 2002 and later achieved Men's Junior Olympic National status. At The Gilbert School he was an honor student and captain of the wrestling and track teams. An accomplished pole-vaulter, he was a state champion 2 years in a row. John Adam then started to coach and teach gymnastics during the summertime. He loved life and enjoyed games, listening to music, playing his guitar, riding his motorcycle, and smoking cigars. In addition to his parents and brother, Jared Groth, all of West Hartland, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Ann King of East Granby and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, 10:30 a.m. from the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, Winsted, to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday 2-5 p.m. Flowers or donations to the St. Joseph's Church Youth Group in Winsted would be greatly appreciated To leave an online condolence, please visit www.maloneyfuneral..com..

To John's friends and family. I am saddly just finding out about this horrible accident today. Its been a long time since I have spoken to John but we were at one time pretty good friends. We used to do gymnastics together and coach at the Gymnastics Trainning center back in High School. John was a great gymnast and a really good guy! He used to give me a hard time during practice but we'd joke about it and he really helped me out sometimes! I am truley sad to hear of his loss but know that I am truley greatful I got the oppertunity to know him! My heart and prayers to everyone who has been touched by John Adam! ~ Nicole Medeiros

I just wanted to pass along to you that Katharine's friends came by last night, and though all these kids are a few years older than John Adam, so they did not know him well, they all commented on what a *really* nice guy he was. Clearly, there are many who knew what a special person he was, and John Adam will be missed by more than you might imagine.

Dear Joanne, Bud, and Jared,
Matthew received word of John Adam's passing when he returned to UCONN last night. He called me immediately. Of all of the gymnasts on the team, John Adam had always been his favorite. The memories of his numerous sleepovers and silly experiences at the gym, during meets (especially in the Pocono's)and at our homes as well as on the Storr's campus will live on in him. The news is overwhelmingly horrific. John Adam was a wonderful young man and we are better for having known him.

Our thoughts and prayers for strength and peace are with you today and always.

To the Groth Family,

I did not know John to the extent that some other people did, being two years ahead of him at Hartland and Gilbert; but I could tell that he was an amazing person to everyone that he met. I remember seeing him around school, at TAC, and running by the tennis courts at Gilbert while a match was going on, often stopping to say “hi” and watch. I am still shocked to know that he is gone, as he seems like one of the nicest, most sincere, fun-loving people I have ever met. He will be greatly missed.
