John Campbell Obituary

John Angus "Jack" Campbell, 81, of Canton, beloved husband of Martha (Mallory) Campbell, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was born July 2, 1932 in Attleboro, MA, son of the late John A. and Ethel (Corbett) Campbell and had lived in Hartford prior to moving to Canton over 53 years ago. Jack attended The Taft School and was a graduate of Yale University, Class of 1954. Jack was an executive at Cigna for 32 years prior to his retirement. Jack was a big man with an even bigger heart, who was incredibly devoted to his family. He married the love of his life, Marcy, and they spent 56 beautiful years together. A true scholar whose intellectual curiosity knew no bounds, Jack was passionate about a wide range of issues. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He loved to laugh, especially at himself, and could be brought to tears by the constant barrage of jokes from his younger brother Roy. Jack was a golf enthusiast who studied the game with an intensity that didn't always translate to the course. A natural percussionist with an innate sense of rhythm, Jack could improvise a drum on just about any surface. He loved history including exploring his Scottish roots with multiple trips to Prince Edward Island. Besides his wife, he is survived by his three adoring children, Linda Brierty, John Campbell and Amanda Cabreira da Silva; three grandchildren, Sean Brierty, Sophia and Olivia Cabreira da Silva and his brother Roy Campbell. There are no calling hours and services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Canton Historical Museum, 11 Front Street, Collinsville, CT 06019.
