Joseph A. IONNO M.D. Obituary

IONNO, Joseph A., MD
Joseph A. Ionno, MD., Ret. Col., US Army, 86, of South Windsor and Hanover, NH and formerly of Hartford, beloved husband of Julie (Soltis) Ionno, died Friday (August 10, 2012). Born in Schenectady, NY on July 10, 1926, he graduated from George Washington University Medical School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Vietnam War. While in the army, he served as a pulmonologist. His lifelong dream was to be a psychiatrist, doing his residency at the Institute of Living in Hartford. After retiring from the Institute of Living, he continued to work Locum Tenens for many years, until his formal retirement. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, David M. Ionno and his wife Frances of Hartford, Mark S, Ionno and his wife Joan of Bloomfield and Matthew J. Ionno of Athens, GA; a daughter Juliane T. Ionno of Lebanon and seven grandchildren, Sabra, Renee, Cassandra, Linnea, Luke, Peter and Mary Kim. Joseph was predeceased by a son Joseph A. Ionno II.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, (August 14) 10 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Monday, (August 12) from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
