Obituary Condolences



Kate Guastamachio, 24, of East Hartford, joined "Jaj" in heaven on Thursday, July 4, 2013, after a short illness. Kate was born April 26, 1989, and was a lifelong resident of East Hartford. She was a 2007 graduate of East Hartford High School and attended CCSU in New Britain. She worked for many years as a Copy Center Specialist for Staples and more recently, worked for World-Tek Travel Corporation. Kate was a talented musician who always loved being on any stage. She played the violin, enjoyed participating in musical theater and choral groups, a variety of ensembles at EHHS, high school Regional Music Festivals, the CCSU Marching Band, and occasionally marched with Connecticut Valley Field Music. She played the trombone in a variety of musical ensembles, including the ECSU Wind Ensemble and as a frequent visitor to the 94th Army Band. She is survived by her parents Candy Guastamachio and Richard (Gus) Guastamachio, both of East Hartford; her sister, Jess Guastamachio; her "almost brother," Alex Katafiasz; maternal grandmother, Joan Brow; paternal grandparents, Bob and Bunny Guastamachio (all of East Hartford.) She also leaves her aunts and uncles; Sue and Steve Michnicki and Carol and Marc Beaulieu; cousins; Chris, Tom and Gerek; and many wonderful friends and co-workers. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Ed "Jaj" Brow.
A celebration of Kate's life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford with Rev. Henry Milan officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, July 9, from 3-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Kate's name may be made to the East Hartford High School Friends of Music, c/o Mark Skowronek, 869 Forbes Street, East Hartford, CT 06118. These donations will be used to support leadership programs for musicians at East Hartford High School. The family would like to extend immeasurable thanks to the staff at Hartford Hospital.
