Katherine ANAGNOS Obituary

Katherine (Vlahakis) Anagnos, age 91, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother of the town of Wethersfield and then later in life of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully sleeping in her family's home on Friday, (December 13, 2013). Katherine was born on July 8, 1922 in Martins Ferry, OH, to the late George and Evangeline (Georges) Vlahakis. She lived in West Manhattan, New York City with her family until she was married and then moved to the Hartford area. Katherine attended and graduated from Washington Irving High School. Katherine married Nickolos Anagnos (one of the co-owners of City Fish Market Inc.) on July 30, 1944, in New York City at the age of 22. They had a loving marriage and she considered Nick to be her best friend. Katherine was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1941 at the age of 19. She and her husband were both active witnesses and spent many years as full-time minsters, she also supported her husband who served as a congregation elder. Katherine considered teaching others the truths of the Bible to be one of her greatest privileges. Katherine was known for being an avid newspaper reader and a fan of Jeopardy. She loved to spend time with her husband, family and friends. Katherine being of Greek background, loved to cook and entertain for others. She was also known for her sophisticated sense of style and love for fashion. Katherine loved to travel; two of her favorite spots were Aruba and Quebec City. Besides her husband Nick of 55 years she was predeceased by her parents and two siblings: John Vlahakis and Mary Mattson in addition to many other dear friends and family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Martha and Philip Fite of Glastonbury, along with her two grandchildren that she loved and adored, Rachel Frances and David Nickolos Fite. She is also survived by her nephews and their spouses and many other loved ones. Katherine's family would like to thank her caretakers Lucy Leblanc, Silvestre Cantillo and Artens Perry. A special thanks goes to Gail Radzavich, as she supervised Katherine's care and was a supportive family friend until the end of Katherine's life. The family would also like to thank the Wethersfield Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for the love and friendship they showed Katherine for many years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 28 at the Wethersfield Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 10 am. A committal will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT.
