Kevin Carlberg

CARLBERG, Kevin Michael John Kevin Michael John Carlberg, born April 28, 1977, in Fullerton, CA passed away on Saturday, (August 29, 2009) after a courageous seven-year journey with brain cancer. Kevin had two great loves in his life, his family and his music. Kevin is survived by his wife Meritt, and his daughter Lyric; he was a devoted husband and father. Kevin's life-changing love of music was born when he picked up a guitar at the age of seventeen. He was a prolific singer/songwriter whose music expressed deep emotions with grace and beauty. While attending UCLA, he was a member of the band "Pseudopod", which won the "Best College Band in America" contest and was signed by Interscope Records. His musical journey continued on as a solo artist, inspired by his survivorship and fatherhood. Kevin stood up to his cancer with courage and resolve. He served as a beacon of light and bravery through his performances, his fundraising efforts, participation in clinical trials, and personal outreach. He lovingly aligned himself with the UCLA 'Art of the Brain', UCLA Neurosurgery, 'Stand Up To Cancer', the 'Love Hope Strength Foundation', 'I'm Too Young for This' and 'The Phase One Foundation'. Kevin will be joyfully remembered by his loving wife Meritt; his daughter Lyric; his mother, Barbara Lynn Carlberg, and sisters, Kristina Giuliano (and husband Vince and their children), Kara Snider (and husband Roger), Meagan Carlberg and Kourtney Carlberg, as well as many other extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by his father, Duane Carlberg. We will all miss his quick wit, spontaneous songs, and a profound sincerity, which made him a friend to many and a hero to all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to make donations in Kevin's memory make them to the Lyric DeeAnn Carlberg Educational Fund.
