DENSON, Lillian

Lillian Denson passed away peacefully on Monday, (January 14, 2013) at St. Mary Home, West Hartford. Born September 19, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY; the daughter of the late James and Mildred (Gentilella) Smith. Lillian was a Bookkeeper for various firms in Brooklyn and Queens, NY including Riester Insurance of Ridgewood, NY during her working life. After several years of retirement in Glendale, NY she moved to West Hartford to be closer to her family and resided at Fellowship Housing, 18B Starkel Road, West Hartford for almost 20 years. Lillian was committed to volunteer work for the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW in her younger years and was a vibrant, independent, determined, caring, and generous daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to dance and to swim and was always looking forward to moving south where she could enjoy the beach and the warm weather. She leaves a son, Edward J. Denson, Jr., and his life partner Paul Phillips of West Hartford; a sister Mildred Welk and her husband Jim of The Villages, FL; grandchildren Abby Denson and her husband Matt Loux of Brooklyn, NY, and Michael Denson and his wife Ellamay of Highland Village, TX; great-grandchildren Kai Denson and Lilly Denson of Highland Village TX; a niece, Cheyenne Isenhour and her husband Bill of Destin, FL; and Sharon Denson of West Hartford , the mother of her grandchildren. She was predeceased by Edward J. Denson, Sr. Of Brooklyn, NY , her husband for 40 years; Harry Dery of West Hartford, her companion in her golden years; and her sister Georgette Luning of southern Florida. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary Home, especially the aides, nurses, volunteers, supervisors and other professionals of the East 2, West 2, Callaghan Crossing, Social Services, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Recreational Therapy units for the loving care they provided for Lillian over the past two years. We know you miss her as much as we do.
Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at 9 a.m. at the St. Mary Home Chapel, 3rd floor, 2021 Albany Avenue, West Hartford.
