MARRERO, Mariano
Mariano Marrero, age 96, husband to Ramona for 70 years, peacefully passed away Monday (November 5, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 12, 1916 in Comerio, Puerto Rico. The son of Severo Marrero and Aurora Morales Marrero. As the oldest of nine children, he helped raise his siblings until he married Ramona in 1942. He was a long time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Hartford, where he was chosen Father of the Year in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, Came to Hartford in 1956. In 1966 made his residence in Bloomfield, CT. Mariano was a hard working man. He was a farmer at heart, was a proud and avid gardener who grew vegetables and tomatoes that were second to none. As a laborer he also worked at the Underwood Corp. then at Stanadyne in Windsor, from where he retired. He was a devoted husband and father to a family who will miss him dearly as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Aurora Rivera; his son Antonio and wife Sonia; and son Mariano Jr. and wife Evelyn; seven grandchildren, Melinda, Elizabeth, Mario, Erica, Daniel, Mayra and Michael; five great grandchildren, Ciara, Austin, Jonathan, Christian and Briana. He also leaves behind his brother Luis and wife Carmen, Santos and wife Lucy as well as his sisters, Maria, Carmen and Conchita. He was predeceased by his sisters Ramona, Antonia and Benedicta. and his son in law Heriberto Rivera.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Henry Fuqua Funeral Home, 34 Granby St. Bloomfield. A Mass to celebrate Mariano's life will be held at Sacret Heart Church, 49 Winthrop St. in Hartford, on November 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt.
