HUGHES, Marie
Marie Hughes, 91, of West Hartford, passed peacefully on Monday, (October 8, 2012), into the loving arms of her family. She was born in Hartford to Frank and Marie Corthouts and graduated from Mt. St. Joseph Academy. Marie attended St. Joseph College. During World War II, she worked at Pratt and Whitney and later at Fort Devens as a member of the American Red Cross. She retired from The Hartford after 25 years as an underwriter, later working with her brother, Dr. James Corthouts, at his dental office. Marie is remembered by many as generous, smart, and always interesting. Her wit was legendary, and laughter always nearby. An avid reader and traveler, she especially enjoyed trips to Holland. She developed friendships with many, sharing many special times with longtime friends Sally, Melissa, Helen and Lucille. Her greatest love was for her family and it was boundless. Marie was much loved and appreciated by them. She will never be forgotten. Her family wishes to offer their sincere gratitude for the extraordinary care and attention given to Marie by the staff at St. Francis Hospital and by the wonderful and caring Hospice Care staff members. Marie is survived by her children, Jack Hughes of West Hartford, Peter Hughes of Frisco, CO, and Penny and her spouse, Bob DeFrino, of West Hartford, her grandson, John Hughes of San Diego, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents Marie and Frank Corthouts of Hartford, her brothers George and Dr. James Corthouts.
