Mary A. Cappello Obituary

Mary A. (Scionti) Cappello, 96, of Middletown, beloved wife for 62 years of the late Frank Cappello, passed away on June 2, 2014 at St Francis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Glastonbury to Salvatore and Salvatrice Scionti. Her family later moved to Hartford where she enjoyed many fond memories of the "old Front St. neighborhood". After getting married to her husband Frank in 1940, she moved to Middletown where she spent the rest of her life. Mary was a loving person who always enjoyed spending time with family and many friends, especially all of her friends past and present at the South Green Apartments where she lived for the last 13 years of her life with whom she loved playing Bingo. Mary was a member of the Middletown Republican town committee for over 40 years and the Anita Garibaldi Society where she received woman of the year award. Mary was the last living member of the "Jolly Dollies". She worked many years and later retired from EIS Automotive. Mary is survived by her three children Joseph Cappello and wife Mary of West Chazy, NY, Janice Gionfriddo and husband Stephen of Middletown, Anita Daniels and husband William (Gus) of Higganum. She also leaves behind beloved grandchildren Kimberly Inglis and husband Michael, Laura Tetrault and husband Thomas both of Middletown, Joseph Cappello and wife Rosemary, Annmarie Knapp and husband Darren, Shannon Trombley and husband Matthew , of New York, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mary was predeceased by five brothers Lewis, James, George, Sebastian and Solly (Skeets) Scionti, and two sisters Josephine Rossitto, Michela Gerulaitis and one grandson Phillip. Mary will be missed more that words can ever describe. We are so happy we were able to enjoy her for as long as we did. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or Donations can be made on behalf of her two granddaughters to the Foundation for Type 1 Diabetes, www.jdrf.org and/or The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research at www. stopsarcoidosis.org. Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning at 9 A.M. from the D'Angelo Funeral Home 22 South Main St, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. At. St. Sebastian Church. Burial will follow in the Family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Relatives and friends may call at the Funeral Home Friday from 4-8 P.M.
