We all lost a great friend.......so sorry I only found out. She was a dear friend and client for many many years and a big supporter of my own catering company (the Food Squad) in the west village. She was always a joy to run into out in the Hamptons.......I am truly sadden by her loss.
With love always, Bob Allen

If someone asked me who the coolest person I've ever known was I'd have to answer MJ, and I've known many cool people. She encouraged me through some dark times, we celebrated many happy occasions and holidays together. She was family, is family, and surly loved by anyone who was lucky enough to cross her path. The world became less interesting the day she left us. Rest in peace sister.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of MJ! What A shock! I Haven't spoken MJ in 25 years but I remember her well. Full of life, full of fun, full of love and devoted to the people in your life that were special. Sometimes things are not fair! Perhaps the saying only the "good" die young is a true-ism with respect to MJ. RIP

RIP MJ. You were among a cadre of women who helped me get my life on track through meetings at Corlear School in the early 90s. I am forever indebted to your living example of integrity, my sister.

MJ was a longtime colleague and a friend who was an early supporter of the work we did at the NYC LGBT Center to support people in recovery from addictions and transgender people. She was always willing to give away free goodies at our events and activities or just lend a hand in any way she could. We will miss her but she leaves a legacy of unselfish commitment to her community that serves as a model and inspiration for all.

MJ had the ability to make your heart sing. Such a rare and precious spirit. May we all carry with us her lesson and her inspiration. I am blessed to have been the beneficiary of one of her countless kindnesses when my partner died years ago. My condolences to Laurie and MJ's family.

MJ catered 3 events for us in NYC; I felt like she was a sister. So warm, wonderful, funny and smart that I migrated to the kitchen before and after the events to catch up with her. I heard the news when I returned from Cyprus last Friday. How can someone so alive be gone so quickly? From UNC Chapel Hill, we send our love and condolences to her partner Laurie and her family. She was singular and special and will be so missed.
