BLASKO, Priscilla Piroska
Priscilla Piroska (Vegh-Szekeres) Blasko, 92, formerly of Collinsville, wife of the late Frank Blasko, died Wednesday (August 1, 2012) at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She was born December 30, 1919 in Alsobalag, Hungary, daughter of the late István and Mária (Turos) Vegh-Szekeres. She grew up in Hungary and met her husband Frank Blasko in Budapest. They escaped from communist Hungary after World War II in 1947 and spent two years in a refugee camp in Salzburg, Austria. They immigrated to the United States and lived in Massachusetts, Ohio, and New York before settling in Collinsville, CT where they lived for 41 years. Priscilla moved to Syracuse, NY to be closer to her daughter. Priscilla was a Bookkeeper and a Pastry Chef at the Hartford Golf Club for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville and Priscilla enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her cooking was the centerpiece of our family events. She is the widow of Frank Blasko and is survived by a son, George Blasko of Collinsville; three daughters, Maria K. Dalstrom and her husband Bruce of Greenland NH, Victoria B. Chenard and her husband Peter E. of Glastonbury and Priscilla E. Blasko of Syracuse, NY; two sisters, Jolanka Ujpal and Marika Gerecz of Slovakia; six grandchildren, Melissa Phoenix of Hampton NH, Matthew Grzywinski of New York City, NY, Justin Blasko of Florida, Timothy Blasko of Cambridge, MA, Kristofer Chenard of Chicago, IL and Erica Chenard of Glastonbury; three great-grandchildren; Ainsley Grzywinski of Toronto, Canada and Madeline Phoenix and Avery Phoenix of Hampton, NH; as well as a nephew David Vacila of Barkhamsted and many relatives in Hungary and Slovakia. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
There are no calling hours. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 6, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, which Priscilla supported due to their exceptional care of her beloved husband, Frank, at 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. She will be missed. Love her dearly. Missed our time together especially during Christmas. She is tough but yet very loving and she taught me how important "Family" is . Such an honor to be part of her family. May God bless her on her journey Rest IN Peace. Miss you Grama.
