Obituary Condolences

REED, Richard Crocker Richard Crocker Reed, 91, of Chester, widower of Jean (Jenkins) Reed, died Sunday evening (january 27, 2008), at the Chesterfield's Health Care Center in Chester. He was born in Brockton, MA. Son of the late Clarence C. and Clara (Dunham) Reed and was a graduate of Thayer Academy, Amherst College and Harvard Law School. During World War II, Mr. Reed served in the United States Coast Guard. Mr. Reed was a partner in the law firm of Keith, Reed, Wheatley and Frenette for many years and a resident of Brockton before moving to Chester in 1991. He was an active member of he former South Congregational Church in Brockton and the First Congregational Church in Haddam. He was a former Chairman of the Board of Brockton Hospital as well as the Old Colony Y, a board member of the former Peoples Savings Bank and served on the boards of many of the greater Brockton Community charitable endeavors. Mr. Reed is survived by a daughter; Anne R. McCulley and her husband W. Michael of Chester, two sons; Robert L. Reed and his wife Kathleen of Wareham, MA and Bradford L. Reed and his wife Lynn of Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 1 at 11 a.m. at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook. The family will greet friends from 10:30 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.
