Richard Donofrio, 81, of East Hartford, loving husband of 58 years of Patricia (Miceli) Donofrio, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, (June 26, 2012) surrounded by his caring family. Born in East Hartford on December 21, 1930, a son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Chicano) Donofrio, he had been a life-long resident of the town. Richard was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church, East Hartford. Prior to his retirement he was a truck driver for many years for Lombard Brothers and had his own franchise for Pequot Soda, Glastonbury. Richard had a life-long passion for horse racing and became an owner of Standard Bred Racehorses and of Chance Stables. Richard liked his trips to the local casinos but he loved spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren who enjoyed their summers at "Poppee's" playing baseball in their backyard field which they named "Richard's Field". Besides his beloved wife, Patricia, Richard is survived by three sons, Richard Donofrio, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Glastonbury, Thomas Donofrio of Windsor Locks, Daniel Donofrio and his wife, Jody, of Glastonbury, two daughters, Suzanne Bronson and her husband, Mike, of Glastonbury, Roxanne McCann of Glastonbury; and nine adored grandchildren, Brent and Scott Donofrio of Glastonbury, Michael and Lauren Bronson of Glastonbury, Lindsay and Ryan McCann of Glastonbury, Erik Donofrio of South Windsor, Megan and Emily Donofrio of Glastonbury. He also leaves three brothers, John Donofrio of East Hartford, Adolph "Don" Donofrio and his wife, Dolores, of East Hartford, Thomas Donofrio, Jr. and his wife, Antionette, of East Hartford, three sisters, Vera Harwood of South Windsor, Dolores Gaudette and her husband, Roger, of East Hartford, Mafalda Talbert and her husband, David, of South Windsor; five sisters-in-law, Rose Pappagallo of East Hartford, Dolores "Dee" Leccese of Manchester, Antionette Donofrio of East Hartford, Mary Seymour and Carol Capoldo both in Florida; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with his parents, Richard was predeceased by a son-in-law, William "Billy" McCann of Glastonbury; a grandson, Thomas "TJ" S. Donofrio of South Windsor; a brother, Angelo Donofrio of East Hartford; three sisters, Ceil Stevens of East Hartford, Arlene Katzer of South Windsor, and Mary Wall of East Hartford.
Funeral services will be Saturday (June 30) at 9 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, corner of Main Street/Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (June 29) from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard's name may be made to the Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108.
