Sgt. Richard Rodriguez, 42, of Hartford, passed away suddenly on Monday (October 29, 2012) at his home. Born in Hartford to Richard Rodriguez, Sr. and Luz Rodriguez, he has been a Hartford resident his entire life. Richard began his career with the Hartford Police Department as a Police Explorer. He was the Director of the Police Athletic League and Director of the Police Explorers, where he mentored many Hartford children and adolescents. He was a member of the Hispanic Officers Association and was a board member for the Hartford Police Credit Union. Richard loved electronics and music, especially salsa and worship music, but his true passion was his work as a mentor for the Police Explorers. His service to his community will be long remembered and he will be dearly missed by many. Besides his mother and father, he is survived by his stepfather Luis Crespo; his brothers Richard Rodriguez, III and his wife Wanda and their daughter Isabella, of FL; and Gabriel Rodriguez of Hartford; his sisters, Christine Rodriguez and her children Idalis Torres-Carrero and Christopher Arzuaga of Hartford, Marisol Rodriguez of East Hartford, and Blanca I.
