COLLINS, Robert E.
Robert E. Collins, 80, a resident of East Hartford for over 52 years, died in the comfort of his home on Friday (July 8, 2011) surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wapping section of South Windsor, a son of the late Walden V. and Edith (Lane) Collins and was employed for over 35 years as a machinist at the Pratt & Whitney plant in East Hartford from which he retired. Bob also was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Air Force Air Police Squadron and a 50 year member of the Hillstown Grange of East Hartford. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rose (Petersen) Collins and leaves a son, Russell S. Collins and his wife Catherine of Manchester; a daughter, Gloria J. Dingee and her husband Paul of East Hartford; three sisters, Hazel Strong of South Windsor, Joyce Collins of Granby, and Margaret DeGray of Ellington; three granddaughters, Anastasia R. "Stacy" and Ashley S. Dingee and Amber R. Collins as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was the loving father of the late Donald R. Collins who died in December of 2006. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., with burial and military honors to conclude in Wapping Cemetery, both in South Windsor.
