Robert Soleau Obituary

Robert H. Soleau, 73 of Marlborough, CT and Wellington FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, (June 21, 2014) after a sudden illness. He was born in Amherst, MA, and the son of Charles and Lynda (Heyde) Soleau. Bob spent his early years in North Hills, PA with his parents and older sister, Lynn. Bob was a proud graduate of North Hills High School and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Bob will always be remembered as an intelligent, funny person who was a fierce competitor in business and sports. His competitiveness, passion, and ability to lead, led to many accomplishments throughout his life. A successful athlete at a young age led him to being Captain of his high school football team and College football team where he blossomed into a very accomplished athlete. He was two time All American player and two time Southern Conference player of the year. This athleticism and passion eventually led him to professional football with the Pittsburg Steelers in 1964. After his professional career in sports Bob found that being competitive and intelligent had a place in the business community and started his own company Diversified Group Brokerage Corporation in 1967. DGB, a third party administration of employee benefits evolved to be one the largest privately owned companies of its kind in the United States. Bob was an avid reader and his passions included watching sports, and taking care of his farm. Bob loved cruising Long Island sound on his boat, entertaining friends and family to one of his favorite destinations, Block Island. He enjoyed singing, playing the accordion and the piano. Bob loved to be the life of the party. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Lynda and his sister Lynn. He is survived by his wife Mary Christine Soleau, his daughters Kelly Soleau, and Stephanie Soleau Silva, his son Christopher Soleau, his grandchildren, Savannah, Averie, Addison, and Brayden, his nephews Charlie Soleau, and Scott Soleau, his niece Kim Mougel, his cousin George Patouhas, many longtime dear friends, and his beloved dogs, especially, Dewey. A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life and legacy will be held at a later date. In remembrance donations can be made to the ASPCA. Spencer Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

I am truly saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He is one person who will live forever in the hearts of so many people. He embodied the "spirit" of our North Hills Mighty Class of '59. Party and Fun are synomonous with Bob Soleau ~ bringing good times and fond memories into every life he touched. Having played football at North Hills High, Bob was a friend of my cousins
Ed, Glenn and Bruce Abel. It is sad to realize that Ed Abel and Bob Soleau have both passed from this life during this year.
Both of these men appeared to be "bigger than life" as they accomplished so much, but as they are called to their eternal home -
may it be said "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

I know very few people who had such a zest for life. He worked hard,he played hard, and he made it fun for everyone around him. We shared some basketball years at North Hills HS,but it was football that made him tick. Sorry to hear about his passing. My sincere condolences to his family. Bob Patrick

I am echoing the thoughts of so many others in expressing my sincere condolences to Bob's family. Bob was truly that one in a million person and although he will be missed, he will always be remembered. I worked for Bob from '83 until ‘96 and I thank him for all the goodness his life brought into this world, and through his competitive spirit, he drove people to be the best they can be. Thank you for the good times, your memory and unique (but true!) stories will never fade.

Had the pleasure to spend some great times with Bob in Marlborough and met his best friend a Pro Center before his passing at a young age. Bob shared his feelings of his friend and that is the side of him I will best remember. Also he was a great deal of fun to be with

My condolences to your entire family. Bob was a man with a great heart! I will always have many great memories of him. Playing the piano at work, volleyball games, Open Houses, great Christmas parties. I remember seeing a different side of him on our fitness contest trips though – a relaxed Bob, reading on the beach and enjoying time away. Thanks, Bob, for all the great memories!
