KNIGHT, Roger Willis

Roger Willis Knight, 92, passed away suddenly at his home in Auburn, Maine on February 28, 2013. Born in Merrimac, Mass. on Sept. 24, 1920, Roger was the second child of Mabel Barker and Allen Knight. He graduated from Newburyport High School in 1938. Roger was a true hero, serving in the US Army, 45th Infantry Division, Infantry, Thunderbirds, 171st Rocket Field Artillery from Oct., 1942 to Sept., 1945. On May 14, 1949, Roger married the love of his life, Virginia Dolliver . They were married for 60 years. He retired from Underwriters Insurance Company. He loved to hike and camp, and passed his love of the outdoors along to his family. Mr. Knight volunteered with the Civitan Club, the Lions Club, the American Legion, and the New England Air Museum. He and Ginny were active members of the First Church of Christ in Simsbury. Mr. Knight is survived by Ellen and Richard O'Brien of Winthrop, ME; his grandchildren Flann, Madelyn and Torin O'Brien, and by Philip and Alaina Knight of Bozeman, MT. Roger's oldest son, Christopher, passed away in 1976. Ginny passed away in 2009.
A service in memory of Roger will take place on Saturday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Simsbury, Connecticut. A reception in the same location will follow.
