Leading Figure in Latino and Caribbean Studies.
Ronald Fernández, a Professor Emeritus of

My name is Lucy and Ronald was my grandpa. He died when I was only two, but I know him through all of the stories I have heard and pictures around my house. I have a picture of him and me on my desk. He bought me a stuffed leopard at a zoo when I was two, and I still have it on my bed at the age of 15.
Love you grandpa

I'm so sad to hear about Ronald Fernandez's death. He was someone who encouraged my push to have Caribbean American Heritage Month in 2003. He was present at the first Caribbean American Heritage Month issues summit in 2005 at Hartford City Hall. This community misses him dearly. May he rest in peace. --- Ann Marie Adams, Founder of Caribbean American Heritage Month in June 2003.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Ron's family at the untimely loss of such a well respected professor. I have many fond memories of Ron as a student at CCSU and a fun Sociology class I was lucky to attend in 1980. He was well liked by the everyone and will be missed by the thousands of students he taught over the years.

My condolences to Ron's family, especially Ben. Ron was a friend of over 30 years. He ecelled at both scholarship and teaching. His values came through in everything he did. He will be sorely missed by the institution, the students who loved him, his friends and colleagues and by the world community. His boundless energy was memorable. I would never has guessed his age.

I have the fondest memories of CCSU's first trip to Cuba.... Where Ronnie and Brenda felt more like old friends than a professor and his partner... I am forever indebted to him for putting that trip together and for all of the many academic lessons that were internalized there....for the many childhood memories re-lived as a reconnected more tangibly with my own culture... Thanks Dr. Fernandez, you will always be remembered fondly.
